A New Programme
A new football-inspired programme has been launched by us at Street Soccer, to help support young people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing in five London schools this week.
We have partnered with the SAFE (Support, Attend, Fulfil, Exceed) Taskforce in Southwark to deliver the course, which will see selected pupils in years seven, eight and nine take part in a combination of football coaching, interactive and educational workshops and one-to-one mentoring.
The Street Soccer Community School programme involves a series of weekly sessions designed to use football as an anchor to engage and inspire participants to improve their self-belief, behaviour and confidence.
Modules focus on topics including building resilience, being a team player, managing stress, coping with change and communication.
Among those the programme aims to support is pupils who may otherwise struggle to engage with lessons in school and it encourages them to lead happier and healthier lifestyles.
We are really excited to be launching the Street Soccer Community School project for the first time in these five schools in Southwark and hope it will be rolled out into many more primary and secondary schools in the future. We as a foundation are committed to improving outcomes in the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children and I hope to see the young people taking part in this programme grabbing the chance to develop new skills and receive tailored mentoring support to help them go on to achieve and build better prospects for themselves.”

Designed as an Alternative Education Provision, the new programme begins for the first time in London this week (May 9) and runs until July 17, with sessions running within the school day at five participating schools in Southwark – St Michael’s, The Charter School North Dulwich, Ark Globe, Haberdashers Academy and City of London Academy.
